The Hassles Of The Alaba Market Traders

alaba market road
Is Nigeria truly a democratic nation living under the ‘government for the people’ principles or are we just living with the selfish mindset that hinders people from caring about things except they are directly hurt and affected by it?
If there is any justice in this country and the government is really looking out for it’s people, how then do you explain the pitiful state of some vital structures of our dear Nigeria, just like the sorry state of the roads leading to Alaba International Market in Lagos?

For one day every year, the spotlight shines bright on Major League Eating, the governing body of 50 to 60 competitive eating events. Today marks the 99th annual Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

The event is staged in Brooklyn’s Coney Island and is Major League Eating’s ‘Super Bowl’, so to speak. What was once an event that turned out fewer than 50 spectators and non-existent media coverage in the late 1980s has transformed itself into a national spectacle. Now, roughly 35,000 people grace the boardwalk in Brooklyn to witness the event.
“Hot dogs on the Fourth of July in America — and you tell me, what’s better?” asked George Shea, CEO of Major League Eating.

U.S. Exports To Russia Rise Despite Tensions, Minor Sanctions

Barack Obama & Vladimir Putin at Putin's dacha...There’s some evidence to the fact that U.S. sanctions against Russia for their part in the civil unrest in Ukraine has not hurt trade between the two countries.  The U.S. exported more good and services to Russia in May, the latest month for data, than any month this year.
That said, Russia and U.S. are only marginal trading partners. The U.S. sold $1.25 billion worth of exports in May, up from $1.03 billion in April and $1.01 billion in March when the sanctions were announced.

All of the sanctions are targeted towards a handful of Russian oligarchs, their privately held companies and a few politicians that are believed to be providing logistic or financial support to Russian separatists inside Ukraine.  The embattled nation has been fighting ethnic Russians since early March, when the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea voted to secede and  join the Russian Federation on March 16.

The Only Good Reason to Get Married - A Dad’s Letter to His Son

Dear Son,

It seems like yesterday you were blowing poop out of your diaper onto your mother’s lap. Yet here we are, on the verge of the birds-and-the-bees conversation. The poop was way easier.

Before we talk about sex, though, I want to talk about marriage. Not because I’ll shun you or shame you if you don’t put them in that order—although I hope you will—but because I believe the only good reason to get married will bring clarity to every other aspect of your life, including sex.

Buddy, you’re probably going to want to get married for all the wrong reasons. We all do. In fact, the most common reason to get married also happens to be the most dangerous: we get married because we think it will make us happy. Getting married in order to be happy is the surest way to get divorced.

We'll Expose Him - Apc Threathens Fani-Kayode Again

Fani-Kayode & Lai Mohammed
Femi Fani-Kayode & Lai Mohammed
Following an emotional response by former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode to a statement by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party has once again accused him of lying and distorting facts.

In a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday by APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Fani-Kayode was distorting facts to reach a prepossessed conclusion on the party’s comments concerning the proscription of Boko Haram by the Federal Government, adding that his response repudiated everything he ever said he stood for.

The party said his response failed to wash off the thick mud he splashed on himself when he returned to his vomit and made himself a tool, used for criticising the opposition, Vanguard reports.
Describing Fani-Kayode as a Janus-faced, brassy personality who stands for nothing and will fall for anything, the party said they would expose him for who he truly is, adding that they would not engage in brickbats with him but simply set the record straight for the sake of posterity.

The statement reads in part: "On June 9th 2013, the ACN issued a statement in which it said in the opening paragraph ‘The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has said that the recent proscription order against Boko Haram and Ansaru, desirable as it may be in tackling the terrorist organisations, violates the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by stifling the press and tampering with the fundamental human rights of Nigerians.

"Any person, especially one who supposedly had the benefit of a sound education, who interprets this statement as a condemnation of the proscription itself is either acting out of deliberate mischief or has failed to take advantage of his good education, perhaps in a desperation to escape justice at all cost."

Fani Kayode, while speaking on Channels TV’s breakfast show, Sunrise Daily, had claimed that Boko Haram was the armed wing of the APC and its leaders of being supportive and sympathetic of the dreaded sect.

The APC, who disowned Femi-Fani Kayode as a member earlier in June 2014, had asked him to retract his comment or face a legal action.

However, the former Aviation Minister had replied that he would not apologise and "hell will freeze over" before he issues Lai Mohammed or the APC any type of apology for what he said, adding that he looked forward to seeing them in court.

Kendra Wilkinson Out Without Wedding Ring After Reports Her Husband Cheated With Transexual

Just weeks after giving birth to daughter Alijah, reports surfaced that Kendra Wilkinson and her husband Hank Baskett were having marriage issues, and she had sent him out of the house. The reason supplied was that he had cheated with a transgender YouTube model named Ava Sabrina London.

And now, Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett has been photographed in a very somber mood as she ran errands and she was not wearing her wedding ring.

They have such a beautiful family, an I still remember how he watched her on Dancing with the Stars a couple of seasons ago.

If these reports are true, I can't imagine the pain she's going through. Why do men do these things?

FDA Warns That Coloured Contact Lenses May Cause Corneal Disease

If you’re into funky-coloured contacts, you might want to pay attention: A recent report on CBS warned that coloured contact lenses may carry some health risks like conjunctivitis, pink eye and other eye diseases.

According to the report, contact lenses are technically medical devices that should be used with a prescription. Contact lenses should be prescribed with the assistance of an ophthalmologist or optometrist to ensure that the contacts fit properly. Lenses that don’t fit could lead to scratches on the cornea, leading to corneal infection that puts you at risk of conjunctivitis, pink eye, decreased vision and even blindness.

Law To Make Nigerians Poorer

TODAY, the House of Representatives will hold a public hearing on the bill for an Act to “regulate the acceptance and utilisation of financial/material contribution of donor agencies for voluntary organisations”.

Whereas the legislature is meant to make laws for the good governance of the people, this is one law that would make our people poorer and freeze their constitutionally awarded liberties.

Should operations involving foreign financial and material donations to voluntary organisations be regulated? Yes, in fact various laws already do. They are probably not enforced. A new law does not guarantee improved enforcement.

We praise the House of Representatives for not falling into the temptation of proposing a new body for the law. At least, it listened to the public outcry against mounting costs of maintaining multiple bureaucracies that duplicate functions. They are new wastes that ensure almost 70 per cent of annual national budgets is spent on re-current expenditure – salaries, furniture and a new favourite, maintenance of computers.

Did You Know That Drinking A Glass Of Water Before A Meal Helps You ….

There is an extremely effective weight loss supplement which also happens to be absolutely safe and, what is more, very cheap. Most people are aware than drinking plenty of water is good for you but, according to specialists, you need a minimum of 8-ounce glasses  a day in order to be healthy and slim. Experts claim that simply drinking plenty of water can lead to a significant weight loss in a short amount of time.

First of all, water lowers the amount of fat stored in your body. If you don’t drink enough of the life-giving liquid your kidneys get “lazy”, therefore most of the work they can’t cope up with goes to your liver. But the latter’s main function is to burn stored fat for energy so if it has to take some of the kidney’s tasks it would obviously fall behind with its own job. Hence, the more water you drink, the less fat you will store in your body.

Job Seekers: Avoid Saying This During Interviews

You’re sitting in a job interview and the hiring manager says, “Tell me what you dislike the most about your current (or previous) manager.” Your heart beats faster and the palms of your hands begin to sweat. Uh oh. How should you answer the question? Do you tell the truth about how much you detest your boss?

Some hiring managers will purposely ask interview candidates about the worst aspects of working for a boss or employer. Heads up! These are trick questions to see if you’ll bad mouth a past job, employer, or manager. Answering these types of questions can be difficult, especially if you’re leaving an unhappy work environment or really do work for a terrible boss. While you might like to let loose and vent, a job interview isn’t the time or place – save your angry tirade for a confidential discussion with your best friend.
